Day 7/19 (2023 Summer Biketrip)

Intro: in the summer of 2023 I did a 1.614 km (1.000 miles) long biketour in Denmark and a bit of Sweden. I wanted to ride on a couple of old railroad-tracks, now converted into bike trails.
It took me 19 days in the sadle and it was a great adventure !
Wednesday 12th of July 2023
Small update: due to rain, I didn’t leave Vejle until 10 am. The nice guy at the other shelter, Chris from Funen who was hiking some of the hærvejen, unfortunately made the wrong choice and left the camp to start his walk 15 minutes before the very last heavy downpour came – meanwhile I enjoyed myself with a little radio and a cup of coffee in the cosy shelter while I packed up my gear. I was not in a rush, because I had about 130 km to Felsted where my buddy Michael lives. I was planning to split that over two days.
Before Chriss left he told me that the electric ferry “Ellen” that sails between Fynshav on Als to Søby on Ærø had some battery overheating issues yesterday and was therefore not sailing at the moment. Ellen is the world’s first 100% electric ferry in the world. To bad because I was planning to take that ferry in a few days. I needed to find another way to get to the island of Ærø. But I had plenty of time to figure that out.
At 10 am the rain had stopped and I took off. I was starting a new route today: regional cycle route no. 36: “Bindeballestien”, which would lead me southwest. I rode past Egtved where the Egtved Girl is. But at the time I noticed I was near, I had already passed it and I didn’t want to go back.
When I reached Jordrup, the route changed to regional cycle route no. 62: “Troldhedestien”. Both of these last two routes really surprised me with its beautiful nature – they are highly recommended if you ever happen to be in the area 🙂 .
I reached Kolding which seemed like a cool city, it actually reminded me of Copenhagen with its architecture.
In Kolding, the route changed again, now to one of the 11 national cycle routes we have in Denmark. The new route was no. 8: “Østersøruten” and it led me south to Christiansfeld, where I am now in a shelter on the outskirts of the city 🙂 . I chose to pitch my tent inside the shelter today – no mosquito bites tonight hehe.
