Day 1/19 (2023 Summer Biketrip)
Intro: in the summer of 2023 I did a 1.614 km (1.000 miles) long biketour in Denmark and a bit of Sweden. I wanted to ride on a couple of old railroad-tracks, now converted into bike trails.
It took me 19 days in the sadle and it was a great adventure !
Thursday 6th of July 2023
I started in Frederikshavn (Denmark) at 8.00 am. It was raining lightly but I really had to begin my trip now. Originally I wanted to start at july 1st, but we’ve had bad weather in july up until now, so I kinda had to get started, because I wanted to get back home before the end of the month, and I was guessing my trip would take somewhere between 17-20 days. It ended up taking me 19 days in the saddle to finish my adventure.
The month of july 2023 ended up as one of the most rainy july ever in Denmark. June on the other hand, had been just full of perfect summer weather – sigh! Just my bad luck I guess hehe.
I rode south on the Eurovelo 12 / Denmarks National Bikeroute no. 5 and got the to small town named “Hou”. I rode past the house that some of my friends where about to move into. But they weren’t home, they were still back in Frederikshavn. I took a break and the grill at the harbour and enjoy some French Frites in my wet clothes. They tasted amazingly good!
After my feast I kept on riding south to the town “Hals”, where I could get on a very small ferry to cross the river to the other side to “Egense”. It’s a very short crossing that cost something like DKK 26,-.
The small ferry could only carry up to 10 cars i think – it was cute!
There were some cool old retro cars like VW Beetles on board, some with caravans. They looked very cool.
When I got to the other side of the river to Egense I was going w-sw on my bike and getting the wind head on. It was time for me to find a shelter because of the time and the fact that I was getting tired.
I found a shelter-camp named “Lundby Kart“. It was located in an open section in the forrest. It had free water and I had the pick of 4 shelters because I was the first to arrive to the camp.
At some point, two guys from “Park & Nature” (the national park services) they where evaluating the shelter-camp – I gave them some suggestions for upgrades, like a nature-toilet, free electricity, free wifi, a pool, free beers etc hehe.
