Day 2/19 (2023 Summer Biketrip)

Intro: in the summer of 2023 I did a 1.614 km (1.000 miles) long biketour in Denmark and a bit of Sweden. I wanted to ride on a couple of old railroad-tracks, now converted into bike trails.
It took me 19 days in the sadle and it was a great adventure !

Friday 7th of July 2023 (2:19)

Today I woke up at the shelter Lundby Krat. It’s located a bit southeast of Aalborg with is a quite big city in the northern Jutland. I packed up my gear, pumped up the bike tires and headed out at around 8 am.

I reached Aalborg from the south side and rode north. I went through a very pretty park-like area named “Østerådalen Nord“. Lots of people out walking their dogs here or doing their morning run. There’s a small river going through here with a gravel road next to it. remembered this area from last year where I did the N3 “Hærvejen” all the way from Frederikshavn to Padbord, down the german border. The only difference this year is that, for this particular part, I am going the other way.

I got up through Aalborg and turned left at the river “Limfjorden” and followed the coast. I rode past Aalborg Streetfood with is a really nice place to go hang out and tast interesting food. I wasn’t open yet though 🙁 I also got though the cool “Fjordbyen” with all its colorful self-built houses. very artsy place.

went past a few small villages near the coast. Reached Nibe with is a nice city that in the summertime have a very cool music festival in the middle of a forrest. Been some years since I’ve attended that.

Later I reached the town called Løgstør. This is where my first converted traintrack-bikeroute starts. It turned out to be a very pretty and easy route to ride. The route is called “Himmerlandsstien” and is 79 km long going from Løgstør to the old city og Viborg. But today I’m only doing the 25 km of those to get to the town called Aars.

The Himmelandsstien was a very nice ride. No cars allowed 🙂 and the surface was hard pressed gravel path, wich is awesome to ride on. There were also no headwind.

I stopped a few times when I came by both Cherries and Raspberries – Those things gets even more delicious when you are on the road, and the fact that they are free.

I reached Aars and found a shelter near FDF (children and youth organization). There was 2 shelters and one of them was free – great! The other shelter was occupied by a nice greenlandic woman that was trekking the Hærvejen. Tomorrow she is walking the whole day to Løgstør (25 km). She had used 11 days to trek from Padborg (german border at the south)
